Playing Space Wars
First of all, how to play Space Wars. This game comes with a pretty standard 5 reels. But, it has 4 rows, instead of the usual 3. Which makes it a little bit more exciting, as you have 20 symbols in play at all times.
The Space Wars casino game is very easy to play. And your job, like with most other slot games, is to make winning paylines across the 5 reels, moving left to right.
You’ll have plenty of chances to make these all-important combos, using symbols made up of aliens, wilds and the magical red crystal symbol.
Furthermore, this game comes with a cool respin feature that’s triggered every time you make a winning payline. So this gives you an extra boost when trying to reach that 1,000x jackpot.
But, if you want to practise your skills before playing this title for real money, then you’ll be pleased to know that there is a Space Wars demo version available, too. Just check our lists of trusted slots sites to find the free-play version of this game.
Finally, anytime you make a winning combo, your aliens will be put into the ‘Cloning Pod’. Which is a nice touch that adds to the overall fun, space adventure theme of the game.
Paylines and Paytable
With 5 reels, 4 rows and 40 fixed paylines, NetEnt’s Space Wars has the potential to be a lot more generous than many other slots. Furthermore, it has a medium volatility, which means lots of nice, juicy regular payouts.
There are a total of 13 different symbols, including 11 aliens, 1 red crystal and the wild symbol. As usual, some symbols are worth more than others. And the one you’re really looking for is the beautiful, glistening red crystal, which is worth 1,000x your line bet. Also, the wild symbol can appear on reels 2 and 4, where it substitutes all other symbols.
Wager limits on Space Wars
The Space Wars jackpot is a very decent 1,000x. And you have the ability to change your coin value and your bet level, using the little dashboard at the bottom of the screen.
This is a common trait with a lot of NetEnt titles. And, by changing the coin value and bet level, you can wager more or less what you wish.
The minimum on this game is just 40p. Which, given that there are 40 fixed paylines, means that you are spending the equivalent of 1p per line every time you spend.
At the other end of the scale, the maximum bet is £200. So, if you’re someone who likes to play with large sums, this should satisfy your needs as well.
What’s Space Wars like to play?
Straight away, you can see that this is a very fun game with a silly and playful theme. The graphics and animations are bright, quirky and expertly detailed. Plus, there are plenty of different symbols to help you as you try to create those all-important paylines.
So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at this game in a little more detail. So that you can give yourself the best chance of becoming the next Space Wars winner.
Theme and Graphics
From the name alone, you can tell that the Space Wars slots game is about space and warring aliens! And, while we don’t really see any evidence of an actual war, the different alien characters make this an extremely enjoyable slot.
With 11 different aliens in play, NetEnt ran the risk of all the aliens melding into one, forgettable, generic character. However, each alien is perfectly unique and instantly recognisable. And we particularly like the mini-movie scenes that play out when you hit a winning pay line.
Furthermore, the starry background and meteors flying around also ties into the intergalactic theme nicely. And, we love the Cloning Pod, which is the strange jar-like object on the right-hand side of the screen.
The Cloning Pod comes into play whenever you make a winning combination, and your aliens will be shoved into this jar, and piled on top of one another, as they are cloned. This is a really fun little extra touch that sets this game apart from other space-themed games. And this crazy title is a fast-paced and funny game that all players will enjoy.
Symbols in Space Wars
As mentioned, there are 13 different symbols in this game. The most important symbol, and the key to the 1,000x win, is the beautiful red crystal.
You also have a wild symbol, represented by the world ‘WILD’, which appears on reels 2 and 4 only. And this wild can help you to make your winning combos, as it substitutes all other symbols in the reel when it comes up.
Aside from these two symbols (red crystal and wild), you have 11 different aliens. Every alien in this game requires you to 3, 4 or 5 of them in order to make a winning payline.
And, just to give you an idea of what to expect from these jolly little fellows, the one with the lowest value is the little purple cyclops, who gives you a 2x, 15x or 40x win, if you can find 3, 4 or 5 of him.
At the other end, you have the angry-looking orange octopus alien. Which, if you can find 3, 4 or 5 of these, will land you a 20x, 125x, or 400x win.
Unfortunately, this game doesn’t have any scatter symbols. But this isn’t a surprise, given that the Space Wars slot doesn’t have a bonus game or free spins round to access.
Space Wars Features
It’s a bit of a shame that this game doesn’t come with more special features. Although you have a respin feature and the Cloning Pod, which doesn’t actually do anything, the Space Wars slot machine could benefit from a few added extras.
But, let’s take a look at what you can get when you play this title.
Unfortunately, there is no bonus game in Space Wars. We find this to be an odd move, as usually NetEnt is pretty good at loading up their games with special features. So, we’re not quite sure why they didn’t bother with this title.
Furthermore, you might think that the Cloning Pod is something to do with a bonus game. But this is not the case. And, while it’s a nice addition, the fact is that the Cloning Pod is only there for comedy relief. And it has nothing to do with your winnings.
Free spins games
Another feature that this game lacks is a free spins round. Again, NetEnt is a software developer that’s normally quite generous when it comes to dishing out free spins and other perks. But, in this game all you have is the chance for a respin when you make a winning combo.
But, the good news is you don’t need to do anything in order to get this respin. Simply make a winning payline, and you’ll get a free spin on your next go.
Space Wars free spins offers
If you’re not content with just getting some respins in the game itself, then you can also pick up a great casino bonus, to get your hands on more bonus spins to use on this game.
For instance, free spins no deposit bonuses will give you a small amount of spins for free. And you can find a great no deposit offer by using our lists of trusted and reviewed UK casino sites.
Or, you could opt for a deposit bonus instead. These deals usually give you a lot more free spins to play with. Again, use our lists to find your next great online casino, and see what kind of deposit or no deposit offers you can pick up that include bonus spins.
There’s no doubt that progressive jackpot slots are some of the most popular games on the market. And players love these types of games, because the cash prizes on offer can stretch into hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of pounds.
However, progressive jackpot games are pretty difficult to win. And, Space Wars is not a progressive jackpot title.
That said, with a top prize of 1,000x your line bet, there’s still a very good chance to land yourself a very decent prize. Not to mention, with medium volatility, your chances of getting a big win are far greater than if you played on a progressive title. Meaning that there are far more Space Wars jackpot winners than there are progressive jackpot champions.
Space Wars RTP
The Space Wars slot RTP is 96.8%. That means that this game is just a little bit higher than the average for a slot, which is 96%.
Return to player (RTP) is the average percentage of your stake that will be return to you in winnings. So, as an example, if you were to put £10 into the casino at the beginning of play, and the RTP 96%, then you should see back £9.60 out of that original tenner, if you play the game for long enough.
Therefore, at 96.8%, this game is a little above the average. Which is always nice to see.
Advantages and Disadvantages
- Fantastic graphics and a fun theme
- Decent top prize
- Medium volatility
- Available on mobile
- No bonus game or free spins round
Our rating of Space Wars
To be honest, we have pretty mixed feelings about this game. On the one hand, it is a fun and exciting adventure through space, with high-end graphics, lots of fun animations and dynamic gameplay. Plus, we especially like the addition of a 4th row, giving you 20 symbols in play.
But on the other hand, this game could really do with some bonus features. As just the respin alone isn’t quite enough to satisfy our itch for some other added extras,
That said, this is a very enjoyable game that offers players the chance for some very decent cash prizes. And the cute aliens made us smile throughout our Space Wars slot UK session.
